Notable Madison Police Calls: 2/3-2/6

A carjacking, an armed bank robbery (Park Bank) and a pursuit of a homicide suspect are just a few of the 914 calls for service MPD officers responded to between Friday (2/3) and this morning (2/6).

Here are just a few of the more notable calls:

Friday 2-3-23:

Carjacking 5:15am (East District): The victim reported an unidentified suspect opened his car door and pulled him from the vehicle. The suspect then drove off in the vehicle. Attempt to locate aired. The vehicle was listed as stolen in the appropriate databases.

Armed Robbery 2:28pm (Central District): A suspect entered Park Bank and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The suspect left the bank with cash. Investigation continuing.

Weapons Offense 3:13pm (Midtown District): Officers responded to the Lussier Community Center for a report of a victim with an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The subject was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Saturday 2-4-23

Check Property/Concealed Weapon 12:45am (Central District): Officers conducting routine patrol in the Buckeye Lot at 217 W Gilman St observed a handgun in plain view in a vehicle. Two suspects (22- and 23-year-old males) were arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Check Person/Resisting 1:13am (Central District): Officers responded to the area of N Livingston St and E Mifflin St for a subject who was reportedly suicidal. The subject was combative with officers and was cited for resisting and attempted battery to law enforcement. The subject was transported to the hospital and left in the care of hospital staff.

Arrested Person 12:04pm (Central District): A 65-year-old male subject was observed and appeared to match the description of the bank robbery from the previous day. The subject fled and was detained. Evidence of the bank robbery was located on the subject. The subject spit at an officer. The subject was arrested for armed robbery, resisting, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cocaine, discharging bodily fluids and an outstanding warrant.

Sunday 2-5-23

Crash with Fatality 6:20pm (North District): Officers responded to a crash with injuries. A driver was conveyed to a local hospital with serious injuries. A 67-year-old male was cited for inattentive driving. **Subject at the hospital passed away.

Traffic Incident/Pursuit 8:07pm (East District): “At approximately 8:07pm, an off duty law enforcement officer observed a vehicle parked near Panera Bread on East Springs Drive and believed that vehicle contained a suspect who is wanted for serious, felony crimes. As Madison Police Officers were coming into the area, the vehicle drove off recklessly at a high rate of speed. Over the course of the next 20 minutes, the vehicle was spotted by officers and at a gas station, on Onsgard Road, Oak Street, and East Washington Avenue to name a few; evading apprehension each time.

At 8:28pm, in the 2800 block of Coolidge Street, the vehicle was located abandoned by police officers and seized as evidence. Three different residences, over the course of the next hour or so, including a vacant home in that general area were checked and cleared by officers. Despite those efforts however, the suspect has not been located.”

WKOW reports that a “Madison Police official told 27 news that several officers were searching for a person possibly tied to a homicide investigation.”
