When Your Kia is Stolen

Kia and Hyundai vehicles continue to be stolen at an alarming rate in the Madison area. This vehicle was stolen twice. After it was recovered, it was stolen again from the body shop where it was sent for repairs. Doesn’t look like it’s in any danger of being stolen a third time…

Damaged stolen Kia

A local police Captain told us this week that if he owned a Kia or Hyundai (whether it’s one of the vulnerable model years or not), he would definitely buy a steering wheel lock for it. As we’ve mentioned previously, criminals are smashing windows to gain access to these vehicles, and some don’t know the difference between model years. They choose to find out once they’ve broken the glass and stripped your steering wheel column causing significant damage.

These vehicles (and other stolen vehicles) are being driven recklessly all over our area, and they are also being used to commit gun crimes. On Friday, July 22 in the late morning, someone’s stolen Kia was tragically involved in a shooting/homicide on the north side of Madison.

Remember, the vulnerable models years are Kia vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2021 and Hyundia vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2021. But some thieves aren’t going to care what model year your vehicle is and may try to steal it anyway.
