Madison Spring Election Guide: District 14

by Safety Connection

You can impact public safety decisions in Madison with your vote in the Tuesday April 4th spring election in Madison!

Your District 14 candidates are Isadore Knox, Jr. and Noah Lieberman.

Our pick: Isadore Knox, Jr.

Isadore Knox, Jr.

Isadore Knox Jr. has demonstrated his passion through civic service to his District 14 neighborhood and community for more than 30 years. As a former Alder, community leader, and member of the Police Civilian Oversight Board, Isadore has shown he can work with others, collaborate, and keep the ball moving forward. He understands the challenges residents of District 14 face and he will listen to and represent his residents with integrity. He will work toward greater public safety in our city and renewed accountability for city government. He knows the value of stable neighborhoods, quality schools, economic development, and diverse housing options. His prior service in city and county government will serve him well.

Isadore Knox, Jr:

  • Supports body cameras on police for increased transparency and accountability
  • Is actively invested in south Madison through his involvement as a representative on the Police Civilian Oversight Board and Destination District Taskforce
  • Serves as a board member for the South Metropolitan Planning Council and the Southside Raiders Football & Cheerleading, Inc.
  • Is active on several local and civic boards, committees, and commissions
  • Is extremely passionate about public safety & accountability in local communities, and will advocate for investing in improving Madison’s housing options, neighborhood initiatives, community safety, and economic/employment opportunities
  • Is endorsed by the Madison Professional Police Officers Association

Noah Lieberman is short on any kind of experience with the district. Check out his website and campaign materials. He is a “Defund the Police” candidate. He doesn’t seem to realize that the Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB) is already formed, and he also doesn’t seem to understand that the PCOB and Independent Monitor can perform independent investigations and provide oversight to the police department, but by state law, they cannot set their policy or discipline officers.

Noah Lieberman:

  • moved to the Madison area, from North Carolina, in 2017. In 2018, he was living in Fitchburg.
  • is endorsed by the Progressive Dane PAC, he will have a city-wide agenda instead of a district-oriented mindset. He will be held accountable for every vote by this political action committee which has endorsed him, as evidenced by this statement on their website, among other things: “We make no apologies for expecting endorsed candidates to remain accountable to their campaign promises and to our progressive program. They are recruited to work with each other and Progressive Dane on a regular basis.”
  • is a big fan of the current BRT plan, Vision Zero, and dense urban infill. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway endorsed him to propel her fast-moving, ultra-progressive agenda forward.
  • serves on the Landlord-Tenant Issues Committee
