UPDATE 2-22-23: Nikki Conklin and Nino Amato advanced to the general election that will take place on Tuesday, April 4

District 9 Candidates:

Paul Skidmore

Nikki Conklin

Nino Amato

Madison Area Safety Connection recommends Paul Skidmore for District 9. As an Alder for 20 years, Skidmore has consistently prioritized public safety and community collaboration. He supports body-worn cameras on police officers and would support increasing the police budget when needed to support proactive, community policing in our rapidly-growing City. Skidmore is endorsed by the Madison Professional Police Officers Association and Firefighters Local 311.

Incumbent Nikki Conklin would be the worst choice. Nikki is one of three Alders who is so fond of defunding the police that she voted, along with 2 other Alders (Juliana Bennett and Yannette Figueroa Cole) not to fix the roof of an actively leaking city building whose roof was long past replacement time. Why? Because the building houses the Madison Police Department Training Center.  She voted against the body camera report and the pilot itself. She voted against grant-funded neighborhood police officers in the vicinity of the four high schools, and she voted against 6 grant-funded police officers who would work proactively with our at-risk youth, among other things. She has voted against Chief Barnes’ priorities every single time. She is also endorsed by the Progressive Dane PAC and will therefore have a city-wide agenda instead of a district-oriented mindset. She will be held accountable for every vote by this political action committee which has endorsed her, as evidenced by this statement on their website, among other things: “We make no apologies for expecting endorsed candidates to remain accountable to their campaign promises and to our progressive program. They are recruited to work with each other and Progressive Dane on a regular basis.”

If you want an Alder who represents YOUR interests and YOUR district’s interests, vote for Paul Skidmore!
